MORE ABOUT THIS ARTIST

[English]
Nyoman Sukari was born in Ngis, Karangasem in 1969. He is a graduate of the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI) in Yogyakarta and has been an active member of the Sanggar Dewata Indonesia artists' association since 1990. He received the Affandi Art Award in 1994, and was chosen as a finalist in the Philip Morris Indonesian Art Awards in 1995. Sukari has participated in exhibitions throughout Indonesia and overseas in Australia since 1990.

Sukari allows his imagination to run wild, exploring the areas of life he is interested in, so that they become magical, artistic outpourings onto canvas. With broad brush strokes and mainly dark tones, Sukari has revealed a consistency in his choice of subject matter in his art work, with his characteristic line, colour and attitude. "If I allow the images to enter into my subconscious, and there is an interaction, it signals the beginning of the creative process for me."

[Bahasa Indonesia]

Lahir : 1969, desa Ngis, Manggis, Karangasem, Bali
Pendidikan : Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta
